How to Apply for a Work Permit in Turkey?
Every foreigner working in Turkey needs a valid work permit. This permission is given by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MoLSS).
The vast majority of foreigners must simultaneously apply for a work visa in order to obtain a work permit. While you collect the documents required for the work visa and apply to the Turkish embassy or consulate in your country, your employer must submit the necessary documents to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
However, it is possible to apply for a work permit not only from your own country, but also within the borders of the Republic of Turkey. Foreigners are eligible to do so if they have obtained a residence permit with a validity of at least six months. Foreigners entering Turkey as tourists are not eligible for a work permit.
Foreign Work Permit Application Process
Even if you apply for a work permit from within or outside of Turkey, you cannot obtain a work permit without a job contract or job offer. After you and your employer have submitted your application, the MoLSS will process the application within 90 days.
If your application is approved, you must go to a Turkish embassy in person and have the work visa and permit stamped in your passport. If you are applying from within Turkey, you can obtain your visa and permits directly from the MoLSS offices in Ankara.
Finally, you must apply for a residence permit within 30 days of arriving in Turkey. Contact the Foreign Branch of the local police station closest to your employer. You are not allowed to start working until you get your work visa, work permit and residence permit.
For the updated lists of required documents requested from you and your employer and all other necessary procedures, proceed by consulting our company, which has established good relations with the Turkish authorities, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Ministry of Interior, DEİK and MUSIAD. You can be sure that we will provide you with the most accurate and reliable service.
Extension of Foreign Work Permit
Work permits are initially issued for a period of one year. If you need to extend your work permit (which you probably will), you must apply for an extension within 2.5 months from the expiry date of your work permit.
Your extended work permit will be valid for 2 years. If you apply for a second extension, this work permit will be valid for 3 years.
After living and working in Turkey for 8 consecutive years, you are entitled to apply for an indefinite-term work permit that does not require renewal.
An application must be made to the Ankara office of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security for the extension of the work permit. We will follow all these processes on your behalf.
Independent Work Permits in Turkey
If you have worked in Turkey continuously for at least 5 years, you are entitled to an independent work permit that allows you to work as a self-employed person. This is an important milestone if your ultimate goal is to start your own business in Turkey.
In order to obtain an independent work permit, an application must be made to the Ankara office of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Do not forget to contact our company so that we can follow all these processes on your behalf. We would be happy to welcome you in our office in Ataköy, Istanbul.
